5 Unsexy Things I’m Doing Every Day to Become a Millionaire in the Next 5 Years
It has nothing to do with saving or investing
Who said you couldn’t become a millionaire if you wanted to?
Money makes the world go round. Whether we like it or not.
Yet you will not become financially free just by saving.
People like Dave Ramsey who sell that snake oil are being outdone. Even my girlfriend’s younger brother who lives in London gives better tips on how to become financially free via stories on Instagram and Tumblr.
Let’s put it this way: There is no such thing as an easy career. With the illusion of that (“Rich in 24 hours or two weeks” ), however, a lot of money can be made in seconds or 24 hours.
Don’t turn my hobby of writing Online into a full-time venture
For many people, this phrase is an expression of happiness and success.
Of course, it’s cool. You don’t have to work anymore — no, you pursue your hobby and earn money for it!
However, even at the risk of ruining your day, this is an illusion. A myth, and a dangerous one.
If we suddenly get money (or a reward) for something we enjoy doing, at some point we do it just to get the money — but not to pass time or passion.
The internal (intrinsic) motivation is replaced by an external, extrinsic (money) incentive — consciously or unconsciously.
Result: Curiosity, interest, and motivation drop away. Now we are primarily concerned with rewards.
Please don’t misunderstand this: Of course, this is not a call for a salary boycott.
Good work should continue to be paid fairly. And turning your hobby into a job may not be a good idea. At least if you want to continue enjoying your hobby for a long time?
… even when you are in retirement.
Writing online is something I will do until I am old. Getting paid to do something you love is sexy, but money is not the main motive for me. I get twice as smart as I write and connect with millions of people online. This is where fortune is.
Online success with selfies
Taking selfies is a profession in itself.
If you share stories about yourself online (something I do every day), that still includes pictures. And if you open your eyes wide, you’ll see more and more entrepreneurs who dare to show off and post pictures of themselves. Super awesome!
There is a lot to be gained if you know how to take good selfies.
I have a friend who lives in São Paulo, Brazil who makes a living taking selfies. It is a profession in its own right.
I don’t know about you, but with me, 99% of the selfies go straight to the trash on my iPhone. Double chin, low light, greasy hair, too much light, messy background, ah, those mascara stains under my eye again, the wrong point of view, hhhhh…) Fortunately, you can learn.
Not quitting my corporate job
Money is still a big motivation in most of the things I do.
As I write this, I have two income streams that help me cover my lifestyle: my side job of writing, and my corporate job.
These two active income streams are helping me build a third passive income stream.
Working hard and not working smart
I will launch 10 online projects in a single year.
Work is work. It doesn’t matter how smart you are.
There is no supposedly easy and fast path to success. Even if many charlatans like to sell you this snake oil.
Countless founders prove otherwise every day.
You work hard to become self-employed. Often 12, 14, or 16 hours a day. Sometimes to the point of exhaustion and beyond many setbacks. At the same time, one can assume that they are not exactly stupid about it.
The same goes for many project managers who dare to try new things, overcome resistance, or drive innovations.
Their work doesn’t get easier just by acting smarter.
On the contrary: stubbornness, uncommon thoughts and ideas, encrusted structures, and hostility to change.
For long-term success, however, there is no way around hard (often uncomfortable) work.
For such people, the motto “work smarter, not harder” may sound like instant salvation.
Yet even this only distracts from the often better option: if you find yourself on the hamster wheel, you should not kick smarter, but get out.
Let’s put it this way: There is no such thing as an easy career. With the illusion of it (“Rich in 24 hours or two weeks” ), however, a lot of money can be made.
Success does not come easy to anyone. And prosperity is still and largely the result of persistent hard work.
Overcoming the financial fears I inherited from my parents
First, research the stories you have about money (or any other topic that is difficult for you).
What did you learn at home about money?
We often take our parents’ mindset and lessons with us. Or we resist them. However, they do have influence, no matter what.
If you have always heard that you were born a dime and will never become a penny, then you will start to believe that at some point.
That is the power of repetition.
This article is summed up in this way: trodden paths lead to stories that everybody already knows. And if you want to get where no one has ever gone before, you must walk paths that no one else is willing to walk.
