There’s a simple trick that many brands use to rip you off every time you buy something. Beware of nasty industry tricks. Only buy what you really need.

That should be your basic principle. Buy with cash only what you have today.

Airlines, car manufacturers, cosmetics companies, and publishers use tricks to lure you into expensive offers.

If you buy a cup at McDonald’s or anywhere else, you’ve probably noticed that there are three sizes: small, medium, and large. The medium cup usually costs almost as much as the large cup. Given the obvious bargains, did you opt for the larger, more expensive option? Allegedly!

Above all, I wonder why everyone buys the large cup when the refill is free. It doesn’t enter my head. If I had to choose, I’d always go for the smaller, cheaper cup. Then I get the free refill two or three times. That’s it. Why should I spend US$2 more for the same amount?
