Let’s Stop Telling People What They Have to Do with Their Money
Medium, Twitter, Reddit, and Linkedin should ban money content.
Reddit is the best social network for me. Everyone there is sincere and realistic.
Money Twitter is the worst money space on the internet. There everybody replicates the same advice. One is a copy of the other.
Linkedin is full of child employers who complain about their bosses. They are definitely not happy with their money situations and would rather gossip online than follow their passions. Waste of time.
On Reddit, there are real stories, and everyone wants to help each other with their overcoming story. Nobody there cares about followers.
On Twitter, everyone just wants to gain fame and money. Everyone wants to generalize advice and think that everything is for everyone. Definitely not.
Not everyone can invest. It is impossible to save money with only one revenue stream. Most of us have more than three jobs to pay the bills. Rent is the biggest expense for most families.
Not everyone can have an online side hustle and a 9 to 5 job at the same time.
Do-it-yourself advice will not work
Copying things 1 to 1 rarely works.
It is definitely not wrong to be inspired, but it is extremely important to let your own personality flow.
Also, everyone’s circumstances and starting points are different, so something that makes sense to me doesn’t make much sense to someone else.
This includes career advice on Linkedin and money advice on Twitter and Reddit.
I have no kids and no obligations, I got interested in making money with collectible card games when I was 12.
My money posts are not for everyone, either. You should definitely try it if you are interested. But there are several other possibilities as well.
Many seem to ignore the fact that I was already making content for Tumblr when I was 14, as a boy. In the meantime, I have produced more than 3,000 pieces of content in Portuguese.
As I imagine, financial freedom does not matter to you
The only difference is that I wouldn’t have to work anymore, but I would do it anyway.
For me, freedom means that I can do whatever I want. And I can at the moment. I work with the people I want. I work on projects that I enjoy and that fulfill me.
For you, you constantly work on your own projects, fulfill yourself, and make money “on the side.” It’s a completely different perspective on life.
Relaxing on the beach and drinking cocktails
First of all, you need to know I am not really a beach person.
I prefer to spend my time elsewhere than on the beach, although I sometimes feel strangely drawn there. And since I don’t drink alcohol, cocktails quickly become superfluous. But I think a lot of people, especially outsiders who don’t delve into the subject, have that image.
It’s similar to minimalism.
Being able to focus on the things that bring you joy. Many people can only do this after they have achieved their financial freedom. Because work, and activity, are not what fulfills them and therefore they don’t have all the freedom they would really like to have.
I value my position so much, and I am extremely grateful.
I know that it is not normal in your 20-something years to have already found something you like, earn a living, and also have exorbitant freedom. As a child, I often thought that if I were someone else, then I could do this and that.
For a long time, I have been thinking to myself, fortunately, I am me and I can do whatever I want. Because that’s why I can do what I do.
Find your own way and ignore everyone else online
Inspiration can be extremely important to then bring in your own creativity and personality.
Blunt copy may work in the short to medium term, but as soon as you fake too much, it becomes too rigid in the long term.
So always stay true to yourself and work on and develop your own personality.
Of course, I also tried to copy a lot. I like to remember how I practically imitated a newsletter, but in Portuguese, 4 years ago and replicated the same money advice, but I always had to fake it with every post until I finally got tired of it.
The real personal touch was missing, and the fit became too much. My real touch is to ignore everyone online and write what I live and live what I write. I don’t follow anyone.
Do what you love. Love what you do. And do what has to be done.
Not everything is for everyone.
Not everybody can save money. Not everybody can afford a house. Not everyone can have more than two income streams.
Accept this ASAP, and stop telling people what they have to do or not to do.
