The Perfect Time to Leave the Corporate World Is Not When You Make the Most Money
Most people make the right decision at the wrong time
Don’t be like them.
I resigned in February 2018. But it took me 5 months to do that. I used to work for a fishing company. I used to be a fisherman. True story. No lie.
I was pretty hesitant because I didn’t know if it was the right time and the right decision. On my birthday, September 4, 2017, I spent several thinking about it. Doing a full-time side business or a full-time career.
I realized right away that I only want one thing for security and nothing else. So I decided against it and made the decision to leave.
After thinking hard in September 2017, I finally, in February 2019 handed in my resignation.
It was a pretty exciting experience for me because I had never resigned before. I thought I would like to do my own thing and do my own projects. If it works, then it works and if it doesn’t, then at least I tried.
Looking back, I don’t think there is a right time to quit emotionally. You should always look for the reasons and make the money provisions for yourself.
Moreover, of course, this should be well thought out and you should evaluate beforehand what advantages and disadvantages there are both emotionally and rationally.
The right time to literally quit the corporate job
To be sure of the right time you need to answer this.
Why should you quit?
It may be that you want to be self-employed, start a company, or simply have another job. Basically, you quit because you are unhappy with the situation you are in.
A few days before the termination, I thought about this for a while and was of the opinion that it is quite unnecessary if you do a job you don’t like. So I decided that it is no longer worth doing this job because I simply didn’t like it and would rather do something else.
As this dissatisfaction gets bigger and bigger, the desire or the obstacle to quit also gets smaller and smaller.
The more dissatisfied you are, the more likely you are to quit.
Of course, you shouldn’t quit if you have nothing on your side or no financial means. I would only quit if you know exactly what you want to do next or if you already have the next job.
You must know what you are doing.
This means that if you want to become self-employed, don’t quit without having done something independently.
You only quit when you work in a side business for 6 months. Then I could see for myself that I wanted to do it full-time. This is the most important indicator of whether it is the right time to quit or not.
What you should pay attention to is how dissatisfied you are. You can only answer this question yourself.
Personally, I just realized that Mondays are something I don’t like anymore. But every 7 days is Monday and if you don’t like Monday, then something is wrong.
I also noticed that I no longer feel satisfied with what I have done, but with my side business.
These are all indicators that I noticed that it doesn’t fit anymore. The dissatisfaction kept growing, so it was only a matter of time before I made a decision.
