Happiness without having money, what would it be like?
Accept that we can’t have everything?
Most of us would answer yes to those questions. We have learned that happiness doesn’t just fall into our laps.
We must work hard for it. Happiness is small circumstances, money, real estate, and employment.
“There is room in the smallest hut for a happy, loving couple,” they say, and that can also mean happiness. If you feel happy in the small hut, you can consider yourself lucky.
Recently, I received a remote job offer on Linkedin that pays better than my current job. I am an ideal candidate for this position, but I feel happy about my job. That’s why the thought of the new job made me kind of unhappy. I went out for a walk and finally turned down the job.
The work that makes you happy is more important than the money you make
Many still underestimate the mental health and influence of work on us.
Even if you have a family to support, you cannot support a job that starts every morning with a stomach ache.
Since we humans are different, different things make us happy or unhappy in a job.
Most of my friends and former colleagues have no recognition. Many change jobs for career opportunities, work-life balance, commuting, and pay.
Of course, not everyone can change jobs so quickly because they are not satisfied.
It makes you unhappy to be stuck in a job for years that you can barely stand.
I had to quit a job last year that I could barely stand in the end.
There were several factors for this. Every Sunday night I suffered in the face of the week ahead. In my free time, I could barely turn it off. I didn’t complain, even though my body was sending me various warning signals and outsiders were advising me to change jobs, I had to go into burnout before I understood what to do.
I resigned and so took the first step toward freedom and independence. Two things I would not like to lose.
Many people forget in their daily lives that true happiness does not depend on a lot of money or things bought but on much more important factors.
These cannot be bought with money and enrich our lives in a much deeper way.
It is difficult for many to think about this and to have clarity about what these things are.
Ability to move anywhere and at any time without getting attached
The money here helps, but not everyone with a lot of money can do this. It’s all mental.
In both our private and professional lives, we strive to not let anyone dictate anything to us.
In my old job, doing things that made no sense to me sometimes drove me crazy.
Now I can decide for myself what I want to do. I am aware of that luxury.
It is clear to me that an employment relationship cannot have the same degree of freedom as self-employment.
There are companies that give their employees a large amount of freedom. This was also the case in my previous job.
Even if more freedom initially destabilizes me, I see it as a great satisfaction factor. So I would always prefer such a job. Writing online.
Figure out what you want to do in life
Does your life have a purpose?
There is another invaluable factor in a job.
Whether you do your job to help someone else or make some other contribution, finding meaning in your work brings happiness.
People are happiest in their work when they are reminded of the important contribution they make to society.
I’ve seen people who helped build houses for the homeless and didn’t mind making more money.
Many do this in low-paid or volunteer work.
For years I have had phases where I think about the meaning of my work and my studies. I often thought that I should have studied nautical science or become a development worker. Then I felt that I could move more. These doubts were stronger in the old job. Today, I am already receiving so much good feedback that the doubts take a back seat. I love writing online.
Peace of mind
How much I value my clear conscience since I am self-employed!
I do what I like. I help other people and I have nothing to hide. I mean, I have a remote corporate job, but that doesn’t matter.
I am also aware of this luxury. I know that many people feel trapped in a job that makes them act against their conscience.
I am happy and find it invaluable not to have to be a salesman who speaks useless things to ignorant people, makes money from their fears, or enriches me at the expense of others.
Knowing what to do with your time
Many of my former colleagues now work in large corporations. I have great respect for them because they only earn handsome salaries by making many sacrifices. They work very hard and are constantly on the move.
I knew early on that I didn’t want that life.
I felt the same way in my second job. I had a full-time job in an accounting and auditing firm and made good money. But I was also asked not to drop my pen on the spot. That wouldn’t have been a problem either, but at some point, the workload was so great that I couldn’t switch off even in my spare time. So what’s the point of all the money and non-cancelability?
Everyone has to figure out for themselves how much free time is enough. Free time is worth more than the number of hours itself.
I like my job of writing online and not having to constantly wait for a little free time in the evenings and on weekends.
Balance
Nothing is more relaxing than sleeping through the night without being woken up by the nightly carousel of thoughts.
To have peace of mind, we have to work hard for them.
I would like to open a can of serenity sometimes.
Things you like to do
Are you good at organizing, speaking in front of people, and programming?
That is priceless.
You can buy books, book courses, or hire a teacher, but everyone has to learn, practice, and persevere on their own.
But you forget most skills as soon as you ride a bicycle. They last a lifetime and are not just a hobby that makes you happy.
You can get self-esteem out of them and help others. They also offer flexibility in your job or if you need to look for a new job at some point.
Being noticed by those you admire
Recognition is not limited to work.
We crave praise from those around us. The best way to get more recognition is to get started.
You can focus your attention on the many opportunities in everyday life. Did someone do something well, cook something, say something or wear something nice?
Money matters a lot, but we waste a lot of time going after it. Life is more than just living for work.
